DREAMS! GOALS! VISIONS!
Do you feel the need to change a specific area of your life or even the world?
Awareness of change is a huge stepping-stone. The tricky part is transforming that awareness into actions to get the ball rolling.
DREAMS without actions are simply DAYDREAMS.
Below are 5 guidelines on how to bring goals to life.
1. WHY? WHY? WHY?
This may be the number 1 question to ask yourself.
-“Why do you want to run the Marathon?”
-“Because I want to prove to myself I can do it.”
–“Why do you want to prove you can do it?”
This gets you to the core personal reason for setting a specific goal. You reflect the inner calling of your soul.
Reaching that purpose will fuel you during hard times. I wish I had asked myself this golden question many failures ago.
2. BREAK IT DOWN
Imagine your goal as a beautiful art painting hanging on the wall of your living room. Majestic, Magnificent and Noble. It seems quite overwhelming, doesn’t it?
Remember, that painting was created stroke by stroke, colour by colour.
Break down your main goal into stepping-stones. Each of which will bring you closer to your achievement.
If you want to run in a marathon, your stepping stones would be to educate yourself, research about marathons, speak to people who have done it, exercise, eat well or even get yourself a personal trainer in that specific field and RUN more each week!
As you move up your stepping-stones, you gain confidence, stay motivated and your main goal starts to take shape.
3. SETTING TIMELINES
Is procrastination a good friend of yours?
It certainly used to be mine and still visits once in a while!
Goals and stepping-stones without measureable timelines may keep you procrastinating, making it all a daydream yet again.
Asking myself this simple question usually helped.
HOW MUCH TIME ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE?
The answer will give you an idea of how long it will take you to achieve your goal.
I gave myself two hours to brainstorm my ideas and type this very article…. that was until my baby woke up from his afternoon nap only 30 minutes after I had started. So finally it took me about half the day! Taking my circumstances into consideration, it would have been safer to give myself a whole day!
Writing down timelines and deadlines in your calendar (which can easily be ticked off), gives you a clear picture of your progress and a reason to celebrate the little successes.
4. EXPEREINCE IT, BE AROUSED
Visualise yourself achieving that goal!
Use your imagination to picture yourself in a situaton winning that competition, publishing that book or getting that dream job.
Feel that happy feeling creeping in? Feel your heart pounding? Feel your body tingle?
Let go and experience the excitement those thoughts arouse.
“WHAT THE MIND CAN CONCIEVE, IT CAN ACHIEVE” – Napoleon Hill
Where focus goes, energy flows. These positive vibrations will keep you focused and motivated, attracting your goals towards you.
5.TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY
Don’t blame it on the rain, the lack of time nor the lack of opportunities!
When you hold yourself accountable for your success, you consciously make it a priority to get things done.
Overcoming obstacles becomes a must and complaining a thing of the past.
Finding the right support in family, friends, a fitness instructor, a personal coach or any social media group will keep you committed, focused and compelled to keep on track and most importantly, celebrate your success with them!
There are many more ways to transform goals into results.
